Animation Artist Statement

For this animation I wanted to incorporate hand drawn scenes into an interesting narrative. I chose the idea of road trip because I could easily come up with several scenes to start and left a lot of room for variation as I went. I drew inspiration from my own life to draw the scenes and come up with the storyline. I included drugs within the storyline as a way to dramatically change the style and narrative. When the main character takes the drugs, the art style drastically shifts. I introduce colors into the animation and alter between photographs and previous drawings. To conclude the story, I transition back into the hand drawn style and allow the viewer to interpret the story in their own way.

My favorite part of this project was creating a narrative. Whereas still drawings can convey message, an animation can convey an entire story. Working with video software was especially exciting. Learning how to piece together scenes and move objects was rewarding. I am looking forward to continuing working with animation and animation software.
