For this project i remixed and edited old family footage to mirror the brain's function of memory. It mirrors how our brain edits memory depending on the context of recall. I had a lot more in depth explanation here of my concept and how i executed it but lost it all in the dark expanse of broken internet. anyways i enjoyed this project because i had never before considered randomly jamming on the keyboard as an art-creating method. also i think this method reflects the subconscious nature of remembering memories wrong and how i represented this thru editing and merging of family members and even distant ancestors. i also had a point here about questions people ask themselves and that i asked myself during this project:
Do i know these people? did they affect my life? etc... other people may wonder that too when looking at old family photos. i tried to represent those questions in this project.
The videos represent the blending of family interactions at family holidays and gatherings across years. the moving images represent the dynamic nature of memory as it changes over time, melding, merging, and modifying our memories. the still images represent the realness of photography but the ever-looming presence of photo-editing software.
the blend between real and imagined is present in technology and cognition and connected by digital art
