In Projection, I will be creating my own projector. I will be drawing on a clear lightbulb or clear lens and shining light through, changing the scale and dimensions on my drawing. I will be experimenting with color, line, and shape to create a dizzying, immersive installation. My process will be creating a minute, detailed drawing yet the outcome will be a large-scale, surrounding experience. I will need to first acquire a curved, transparent drawing surface to begin this work.
Final Statement: In my final installation, I created a rotating projection that had a disco ball effect. I drew on a glass vase with a mess of multicolored linework, then balanced the vase on a vinyl record player. I then put a light bulb inside the vase and projected the drawings onto the surroundings, which was a structure of white paper surrounding the record player. As the vase spun atop the record player, the drawings danced across the paper. I opted to include sound from a record I have, which I chose to play sounds from an electronic sound effect record from 1960s Japan. Altogether, the installation created a dizzying audiovisual experience. The rotation, light, and sound of the project combined to create some mechanical, energizing, and purposeful. The alien-quality sound combined with the rotating ball of light and dancing, blurry drawings creates the effect of a generator, something with a pulse, and something creating itself. Thought the experience only lasted for a short time, and the structure was temporary, the effect was still profound. This works inspires my love for installation spaces, moving art, audiovisual experiences, and nourishment.
