Avant-Garde Equinox Distortion represents desire.

What begins as a spinning vortex of disembodied voices soon transforms into a blissful audiovisual landscape. I began making this project by thinking about my current lifestyle, daily activities and responsibilities, and yearnings. I felt stuck in a vicious online loop: being controlled by the computer. It was in charge of my academics, my internships, my social life. I couldn't escape. I desperately tried to breathe fresh air at least once everyday. It cleared my head and reset my anxious breath. While listening to  "Treefingers" by Radiohead and watching the clouds, I realized my ultimate desire and envisioned how I would capture it.

The video initially introduces a rotating mix of online lectures, merging and overlapping until they are indistinguishable: overwhelming. The figure on screen spins their head, unable to locate the source, lost and desperate for direction. A sudden change immerses the viewer in an inverted bubble beneath the sound: there is no escape. Finally, the figure turns around to locate the source of this evil and realizes where he must go.

Surrounded by soft, warm light and immersed deep in a euphoric soundscape, the viewer travels through this new world: bliss. Flying, breathing clean air is a refreshing change from the musty darkness Inside. The viewer notices an amable orb and follows its inviting glow. With child-like wonder, the view explores gentle light and vivid color. Filled with creative opportunity and surrounded by nature, the viewer fosters a newfound hope. An escape from worry; the ultimate desire.

The video concludes with a mysterious scene; a stationary massive metal cylinder engulfs a fast-moving swarm of white particles. Perhaps representative of the strain technology imposes on nature itself, this final scene is inconclusive. Now armed with new knowledge, the viewer is left to their own devices: to move through this world with purpose to find their own ultimate desire and to be free of stress, worry, and pain.
